What a wild year! The hopes and promise of something new coupled with more disappointments. You may ask yourself, when is it really going to change? It’s easy to go down the hole of despair and frustration. You may ask yourself, how can you continue down a road where you feel hurt and brokenhearted?
It’s time to stop going down the rabbit hole! More disgust only leads to more disgust.
Adrian decided to turn an out of state business meeting into an opportunity to also see friends and enjoy herself in the mountains. The first day was an all day business meeting followed by dinner with friends with a newborn. Adrian woke up exhausted from being on the go from 6am and getting back at 9pm. And, today, was going to be even longer. Sound familiar?
A long walk and lunch with friends, followed by another business meeting, and then an evening event. While driving back to her friend’s house where she was staying, all she could think about was not having crammed so much into each day. This was neither fun nor relaxing. Adrian greatly enjoyed catching up with friends yet thought there’s got to be a better way. She still wanted to see many of the people she loved and cared for but hadn’t seen yet.
Adrian headed to the mountains for a couple of days without anyone. This solitude was exactly what soothed her soul, opened her heart, and rejuvenated her body. As she hiked the first day, gently breathing with each step at altitude, giving herself patience to go at her own pace, Adrian was curious if she would see wild mushrooms. Suddenly, every 50 feet she saw a wild mushroom, then another, then another. Adrian recognized her focus and intention was on finding wild mushrooms. She found over 50 on her hike up the mountain.
With her mind still yet body moving as she descended the mountain hike, she asked herself, how can this vacation move with more ease and grace? That early evening, she called to let a friend know that she wouldn’t be able to see them despite wanting to. Adrian felt the tears of pain through her friend’s voice when she wasn’t going to visit. There has to be a better way. I can’t rush through a fun mountain activity to then drive 3 hours then think I’ll be in any mood for a friendly visit. Hmmm, Adrian thought to herself, how can this be done with ease and grace?
After a delightful evening relaxing, a lightbulb went off. Adrian was not in a rush to be home. She could change her airline ticket for $13 and plus the cost of renting a car for an extra day. That price for ease and grace was well worth it. The next morning her friend was delighted to hear that the winds had changed and she would see her dear friend Adrian.
Life changes when we focus our intention on what lights up our hearts. It’s time to stop focusing on what you don’t want and focus on what you do want.
Adrian decided to live with ease and grace.
With the hot, muggy, and grimy days of summer still to come, how can you find the joy in the sweat, dance in the rain, and delight in the summer barbeques?
It’s a special time of year to let go of relationships and situations that are self-sacrificing and bring you nothing but frustration and grief. Feel the pain and let it move through you and out of you. Release the frustration and jump into what delights your soul.
Ask yourself this question,
Where does your heart belong? This is where the riches of life begin.
Go find your wild mushrooms!
Wishing you an abundant, joyful, and prosperous day!
