A fierce wind and snow storm wreaked havoc on Whidbey Island north of Seattle before the holidays. Wind ravaged trees strewing them all over roads and tore down power lines, leaving residents without heat, electricity or passable roads. What were they supposed to do for the holidays? Last minute purchases and food shopping couldn’t occur.
Yet, one family didn’t care. The Father told the kids to dress warm. We’re walking a mile to go sledding. The three kids ranging from 6 to 13 years old yelled “Yeahhhhhh.” They walked the mile to the large hill and sledded down for hours. They didn’t care they were cold and wet. They were having a blast hanging out with their parents. They came home and changed into dry clothes and set them next to the warm fire. The mother got creative and cooked food that was going to spoil on top of the wood burning stove.
All night long the family played board games. That night, they snuggled in sleeping bags near the wood burning stove and stayed warm. This went on for three days.
- There were no phones.
- There was no wifi.
- There were no computers.
- There was no tablets.
- There wasn’t even a hot shower.
The family bonded more in a couple days over fun experiences and conversation than they had the entire previous year running kids from one thing to the next.
Where in your life do you need to disconnect from technology and reconnect to what’s most important?
Wishing you an abundant, joyful and prosperous day!
