Ever find yourself completely depleted and exhausted and can’t figure out why?
Debra loved to help others. With three energetic kids ranging from 9 to 14 years old, they kept her on her toes. Each kid was in a different school with separate curricular activities from martial arts to soccer to softball. After Debra worked a long day teaching, she juggled picking up each kid with her husband to figuring out what was for dinner.
The running joke in the family is that Mom (Debra) became a zombie on Sundays attempting to regain strength and energy for the week. Don’t ask mom to cook Sunday morning breakfast as there was zero energy for that. Debra recouped in time to run the local Girl Scouts troop activity every Sunday evenings.
One day while dropping off one kid, Debra reached out to her little sister, Lila, stating how exhausted she was. Lila acknowledged her concern yet gave her the straight up truth. You’re giving so much you’re depleting yourself. Lila said with a stern voice, you can’t give from an empty cup. You’re constantly trying to please your kids at the cost of yourself. Debra pulled the car over and begin crying profusely acknowledging that was the true issue.
In an attempt to please her kids, Debra compromised herself and lost who she was in the process. She didn’t even know what rejuvenated her own soul anymore. It is time to stop the people pleasing!
Where in your life are you either giving or receiving too much? What will bring this back into harmony?
Too many people lose themselves and who they really are for the sake of their loved ones or colleagues. Where can you take back ownership of your own life and refill your cup?
No one can take water from a dry river bed. Let’s replenish the water and the flow of energy in your life.
Wishing you an abundant, joyful, and prosperous day!
